Last week I have been attending the NOBUGS conference in Hamburg, dedicated to software for user facilities such as synchrotrons and neutron sources. Besides meeting with a wide range of experts in data management and -processing (and geeking out over data corrections with fellow specialists), there were quite a few interesting talks on the increasing (ab)use of AI tools. These are increasingly being used by users of X-ray instruments to tune and automate their experiments, as well as for analysis of data. For that reason, the question was being addressed on how to maintain code quality and stewardship.

My contribution to the conference has been twofold. The main reason was to gauge large facility interest in the reference-quality modular data corrections we have been developing to produce traceable, uncertainties-decorated data. Besides that, I have also been presenting on the lab instrument automation efforts that have improved the reliability and throughput of the MOUSE, and in particular the recent move to the Bluesky ecosystem and its queueserver.
