SAS2024 in Taiwan – final deadline approaching

If you have a chance to travel to Taiwan this autumn, you’ll be able to enjoy the SAS2024 conference! It has been two years since the last one (which got delayed due to Covid), and this one is looking promising so far with a few familiar faces in the line-up. I cannot find any information on a hybrid option at the conference so far, but I do hope it is offered (at least for some sessions) to lower the barriers of participation to those unable to travel.

The deadline for the abstract submission has now been extended the “obligatory” two times, which means the really really final chance to get your abstract in is actually the 30th of April – less than a week from now. There’s an incredibly broad range of topics on offer during the conference, so I suspect most of our respective niches will be covered.

Besides that, I really hope there will be a plethora of opportunities for interactions and casual chats, as this is where the real value of the conference is for me, it is often where ideas are flowing and collaborations are set up. Some of these collaborations will work out, others vanish after an email or two afterwards, but in general I always end up with a few more collaborations after every event.

Being able to catch up with the work of many colleagues all in one week is also very handy. The current pressures at work makes it hard for me to stay up to date with the work in the field, and so a one-week update session is great for that. My only regret is that I won’t be able to travel there by (low-emissions) train or sailing ship as I had originally hoped for, so there’s extra incentive to make it worth the cost!

I am really looking forward to seeing you all there.
